...Three of them stood and said their normal evening prayers together on the plane, as 1.7 billion Muslims around the world do every day, Shahin said. He attributed any concerns by passengers or crew to ignorance about Islam.

“If up to now they don’t know about prayers, this is a real problem,” he said.


The REAL problem is that Muslims don't know enough to RESPECT their fellow AMERICANS. If he was flying on a Sunday, the Pope wouldn't stand in the aisle of a USAir Flight and subject the whole plane to Mass, would he? And I'll BET there were concerns, since no one would expect the Pope to stand, pray and blow the frickin' plane up.

Three Islamic individuals suddenly standing and praying in the aisle would have me worried. They wouldn't have gotten half a prayer out before I'd tackled their asses.

You live HERE, pinheads. Not Riyadh. Not Baghdad. Not Teheran.

I've known Muslims who pray daily. But they do it DISCRETELY. Without BOTHERING people.

It's not rocket science. Be POLITE about it, and THINK ABOUT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU, and you can pray where you like. It's that simple.

I should think that anything a Muslim does on a plane should automatically be suspect. They are watching the furor now and are getting the protection they need to try something else in conjunction with praying in the aisles.

You know it REALLY BUGS ME that not one of those passengers jumped the guys, or at least confronted them ~ just "passed a note to the crew'? WHAT is UP with THAT?!!

Are we returning to the pre-9/11 mindset that got a lot of people killed because they wouldn't react?

Crickey, WTF do these people expect? For everyone in America to drop what they're doing to go get a friggin' degree in Islamic theology? Why in the WORLD should I know everything about Islam and its practices and spend every waking moment of my life contemplating how or why my actions might offend Muslims? It's not like I'm going to invite a Muslim over to my house and deliberately fry bacon in front of their face and invite the dog to sit at the dinner table, but Jeebus, it's absurd how far some of these people expect others to understand their religion and practices. THAT is the problem, not people who get just a wee nervous when three Muslims stand up on an airplane and start talking to Allah.

I am firmly convinced of that, too, Gunny. They haven't stood up to pray onboard before that we've heard of, right? I will repeat what I said over at HotAir when someone suggested people should have stood up to them...and recited the Lord's Prayer:

Just like I wish someone had tackled their asses when that first boxcutter came out of a pocket on 9/11. Is that what we’re back to NOW?
