"It was a good day for the Marine Corps"

via RealJeffS, here's a story to make us all even more grateful this Thanksgiving

FARAH PROVINCE, Afghanistan — In the city of Shewan, approximately 250 insurgents ambushed 30 Marines and paid a heavy price for it.

...“The day started out with a 10-kilometer patrol with elements mounted and dismounted, so by the time we got to Shewan, we were pretty beat,” said a designated marksman who requested to remain unidentified. “Our vehicles came under a barrage of enemy RPGs (rocket propelled grenades) and machine gun fire. One of our ‘humvees’ was disabled from RPG fire, and the Marines inside dismounted and laid down suppression fire so they could evacuate a Marine who was knocked unconscious from the blast.”

...“The biggest thing to take from that day is what Marines can accomplish when they’re given the opportunity to fight,” the sniper said. “A small group of Marines met a numerically superior force and embarrassed them in their own backyard. The insurgents told the townspeople that they were stronger than the Americans, and that day we showed them they were wrong.”

During the battle, the designated marksman single handedly thwarted a company-sized enemy RPG and machinegun ambush by reportedly killing 20 enemy fighters with his devastatingly accurate precision fire. He selflessly exposed himself time and again to intense enemy fire during a critical point in the eight-hour battle for Shewan in order to kill any enemy combatants who attempted to engage or maneuver on the Marines in the kill zone. What made his actions even more impressive was the fact that he didn’t miss any shots, despite the enemies’ rounds impacting within a foot of his fighting position.

“I was in my own little world,” the young corporal said. “I wasn’t even aware of a lot of the rounds impacting near my position, because I was concentrating so hard on making sure my rounds were on target.”

Deadly...and economical. God bless you, young man.

As I told Robb Allen this morning, NOTHING in this world is as dangerous a Leatherneck corporal in HIS "own little world".

OO-rah, Jarhead! S/F

And to the utter shock and dismay of the usual lefty suspects those Marines probably eliminated those gene pool anomalies with little or no damage to the village or the local inhabitants. Things like that are noticed in that part of the world-win-win!

/Rant key......"ON"
Could the clowns in foggybottom find some more money for Predator aircraft please! It sounds like these youg Marines had to walk into another dangerous village with no overhead eyes. We just had another leg of the bailout announced this morning (TALC) with more hundreds of billions out the door, some going to prop-up a university system via student loan provisions. Seems they can't find enough money to properly equip college age Marines yet they have no problem finding hundreds of billions of dollars to help a university system that does nothing but villify these young men who are putting their lives on the line to defend their freedom to be a**holes!

I love stories like this. Real men fighting like men should and unabashedly killing people who so thoroughly deserve to be killed.

Why isn't this a major headline in the news?

Semper fidelis, Corporal.

DUH, Skyler. He SHOT and KILLED. (I won't say 'people/humans' since Taliban hardly qualify.)

WITH a semi-automatic rifle, I might add.

Nope. No front page for THAT murderous rampage. And Murtha's working on his press conference as we speak.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 25, 2008 02:35 PM

I recall a generally similar incident* that resulted in a whole lot of headlines. Good thing Murtha wasn't born then, less his mother have a horrible mess to clean up.

==================
*: Yes, I know, I'm comparing the Army and the Marines. But it's generally similar.

"Could the clowns in foggybottom find some more money for Predator aircraft please!"

WTF does the State Department have to do with procuring military equipment?

"But it's generally similar."

Not generally.

"Foggybottom" is also a generic derogatory name for the entire DC area.

As is "fetid pus-filled swamp", yojimbo.
