For Skyler

You were right, you know.

And to those of you who haven't seen "Streets of Fire"...do. But make sure you can CRANK the sound. You'll probably recognize quite a few of the fresh YOUNG faces in it, too. Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Robert Townsend, Rick Rossivich, Bill Paxton, Willem DaFoe...it goes on and on, with Walter Hill directing and Ry Cooder music. Even has a certain Marine Jahan, who would later do the dancing in a famous Jennifer Beals movie.

It's been a staple in our house since it hit VHS tape and the soundtrack cassette at full volume/base walked a stained glass lamp right off one of the Altec-Lansings.

I always wanted Diane Lane's little dresses. It's quite the prettiest she's ever looked.

Man, I haven't watched that movie since Reagen was President.

Guess I'll add that to my "purchase" list.

How nice.

Wow, that song still hits me. The movie was cornball in a fun way, but I really liked the music. I still do. I'm going to have to rent the video, maybe even buy the sound track on line, I don't have a cassette player any more for my original soundtrack.

This is one of those times that having a deaf wife is tough. A silly movie that makes little sense except for the music is hard for her to appreciate. I'd like to share it with her if I could.

But then again, her favorite movie is Grease, and she loved that movie long before they had closed captioning. Streets of Fire is visually dark and somewhat chaotic, I don't think she would appreciate it and there's no way to explain it to her. Drat.

It's a GREAT movie. And 'cornball's' a good description, but also kind of misleading.

And don't despair! So many of the new DVD's (especially iconic flicks like this one) have absolutely fabulous special features, including that closed captioning. I just KNOW she'd adore the visuals ~ they're so striking ~ and it's a pretty nifty, bittersweet little story in it's own right. Give it a shake!

I just noticed that Diane Lane's band is called Ellen Aim and the Attackers, and the gang that kidnapped her is called the Bombers.

I wonder if we like this movie becase we were in an A-6 squadron?
