You Know

...I really don't get this whole thing. And that's a damn sorry Yahoo headline, holy day or not.

Iraqi Shi'ite mourn free of violence

Major Dad sent me the picture in the extended section. For the life of me, I can't remember the last time blood was shed on St. George's Day (probably when the dragon died) or any of the martyrs' days. The Swiss report I linked to said Ahsoura gatherings have been big suicide bombing targets, so it looks like they kill each other coming and going. If the stampede doesn't get you or you don't go a little crazy slicing yourself up with a knife, the a$$hole with the backpack will pick up the slack. They've got bigger problems than cartoons.

Yahoo here.

But pilgrims are focussed on the violence that took Hussein's life 1,300 years ago and still consumes them in modern Kerbala.

Call me crazy, but y'all have been mourning this guy's death for 13+ centuries by massing in hundreds of thousands and cutting oneself with knives and swords. Maybe there's a connection? Could this be some sort of clue to why violence is so prevalent in your world today?

"Beat your heads. Beat your heads to show his agony," said the storyteller, as he described how enemy soldiers grabbed Hussein's beard just before decapitating him.

Somebody needs to invent the Stations of the Crescent or something, NOW.
