I guess they realized it wasn't worth spending billions (more) on a gun that won't stop a bad guy with one round.

7.62mm vs 5.56mm is a concern? No duh! That question came up when the AR15/M16 was first fielded. The sergeants were still bitching about it when I entered the Army in 1979.

We should just adopt the AK family. Save us a crapload of $$ on ammo, even if we build new rifles.

But really, the 7.62 NATO is the way to go, for the time being. Maybe adopt G3s, FN FALs, SLRs or just give all the guys M-14s. But I am still not holdign my breath. Lotta bad blood over the whole 5.56 decision.
