Coffee Is Health Food!

I always knew it:

Coffee and tea may reduce the risk of serious liver damage in people who drink alcohol too much, are overweight, or have too much iron in the blood, researchers reported on Sunday.

Woohoo!!!!

I feel so ... vindicated. Guess I could afford to go ahead and crack open a few beers.

YES!!

Plus it's full of anti-oxidants! Nothing but good news keeping Bingley from the unemployment line at Christmas time!

So I guess this means an Irish Coffee is INCREDIBLY healthy for you, eh?

Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at December 5, 2005 03:00 PM

Absolutely, Jeff!

Tonight with dinner: beer and coffee.

BRILLIANT!

What's not to love? Caffeine is one of the four food groups, right?

1. Caffeine
2. Booze
3. Fat
4. Sugar

Posted by: Nightfly at December 5, 2005 05:53 PM

No, Diptera, CHOCOLATE is. Caffeine is a sub-group of that.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at December 5, 2005 07:04 PM

As they said in the movie Sleeper, "All the foods that were considered bad for you, we found to be healthy."

Posted by: GetALifeAgain at December 5, 2005 08:23 PM

The four food groups, amended:

1. Chocolate
2. Booze
3. Fat
4. Sugar

This means that a balanced meal is covered by a mug of Irish coffee and a plate of Oreo cookies!!!!

Nightfly had it right.

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at December 6, 2005 08:07 AM

Did not.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at December 6, 2005 11:33 AM

Chocolate does not contain any caffeine. It contains theobromine*. I'll leave it to John to fully explain the difference, but they ain't the same.

*For you Latin afficianados, the name is "food of the Gods", Theobroma.

So, nyah-nyah, Diptera is right, and you are...not.

pfft!

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at December 6, 2005 01:53 PM

[Shh! Dude, it's from Greek]

Posted by: Ken Summers at December 6, 2005 03:21 PM

Bingo, BOINGO, Bingely, YOU...are WRONG, wrong-ola, in error, erronious and not right. (The Dr. was right...about YOU not being 'right'. Besides you being WRONG. Like Diptera is 'wrong' but he's alright.)

In comparison to a small, 8-ounce cup of brewed coffee with about 100 milligrams of caffeine (depending on how it's brewed), or one ounce of espresso with about 40 milligrams of caffeine, the typical 1.55 ounce milk chocolate candy bar offers only 10 milligrams of caffeine. The same amount of semi-sweet dark chocolate offers about 30 milligrams, and a one-ounce square of baker's chocolate, 25 milligrams. (Note: Dark chocolate contains more cocoa, hence more caffeine.) A glass of chocolate milk has only 5 milligrams, an insignificant amount, even for kids.
I am RIGHT and you are wrong* and John can save his quantum typing finger.

*For you Latin afficianados, the word is "nefas", Takeabromide.

Hence the primary food quartet set forth by JeffS stands unassailable and sublimely correct.

Ergo: nyah nyah and pi youse.
