Oh well...
Clive Owen turned down the Bond role. I wonder who we'll see? Orlando? (Ack!) Jude? (I could live with that.) Or another lesser-known? George is still free, I hear.....

He said from day one that he was going to turn it down, so that's no big surprise. No big surprise that that best possible Bond ever (yes, I'm including the big Seanny C) would turn it down.
I imagine he might have been more apt to take the part if the franchise wasn't a joke. If the movies had the same cool they had when Connery vacated the helm, or even when Moore left, I bet Owen would have been all over it.
He's got the Sin Cities to do now. And that's cool.

I suggest Jack Davenport from Coupling and Pirates of the Carribean (I know he's known more for comedy, but he's got that British patrician thing GOING ON.) or Matthew MacFadyen from MI5, who is, frankly, luscious.

I had a Bond idea all the way back in HS, when Timmy Dalton was jumping into the role. Very simple - two films, back to back, matching him up with an agent who defected during the Cold War and is resurfacing now as a prime mover supplying terrorists. Not original, perhaps, but it had a neat twist ending. (Tell you about it tonight, if you like, Mr. B.)

It's apparent that the movies have gone downhill, but the books have maintained a very high quality. John Gardner has done some really, really good stuff with them. The movies haven't used them though.
