What I'm Drinking Tonight

If you are looking for a nice peaty Scotch, and I know you are, but you're somewhat afraid of Laphraoig, then Bowmore 12 Yr may be the scotch for you. It has a smooth peatiness with a honeyed finish. Ok, that sounds pompous as hell but trust me: pour yourself a glass and you will know exactly what I mean.

Or, you could be like me and drink it out of one of these:

a pewter Jefferson Cup. I don't want to hear any crap about Waterford crystal; I like drinking out of these cups. I have many fond memories (and many more indistinct ones) of drinks in these cups.

Look at the scratches and wear and tear on that cup! If only it could talk, it would say things like "Brrrrrr, learn to drink scotch neat!"

I don't care if it's Wednesday. I'm drinking scotch.

Afraid of Laphraoig!?!

Pssht.

As a newt. ;)

I'm not pete; I have my "Friends of Laphraoig" membership and my title to 1 square meter of land at the distillery, but there are sadly some folks who get one whiff of those old sweat socks and run for the hills.

Yes, Jeff, my dirty little secret is that I like my scotch on the rocks. I shall carry this shame unto my grave.

Ice in single malt? Say it ain't so. That's heartbreaking. Malt, like brandy, needs to be warmed to release the volatiles. My dad even drinks his malt out of a brandy balloon (he has a little tea-light contraption to warm it to optimum, but he takes Scotch even more seriously than I do). Every time you put ice in single malt, the Baby Jesus cries.

The other day, a friend of mine insisted on putting ice in the glass of 18 y.o. Caol Ila I poured him. I had to avert my eyes.

As Michaeleen Og Flynn says in the Quiet Man:

"When I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey. When I drink water, I drink water."

A brandy balloon? That's always occupied with my bride's cognac.

The times I've had it neat it tasted too cognacy...it is a shameful burden David, I admit it. If I gt a chance to pour you a glass I will have mine neat so as not to offend, as God is my witness.

If you're gonna drink something cold, put a bottle of Pertsovka in the freezer.

Hmm, maybe I need to find a support group...

"Hi. My name is Bingley. And I like scotch on the rocks."
