It could also be a matter of the people on the purchasing end unable (or unwilling) to afford the higher cost of a quality show, and bypassing it in favor of schedule filler.

I can also discern some self-fulfilling going on - Euros say the Yanks are shallow, they don't watcht the quality stuff when it's on, therefore the supply goes down and wretched (and cheap, remember) krep goes up in its place, thus reinforcing the initial belief that Yanks are shallow.

Personally, if COPS and such is so popular there, then I'm not sure which is the shallow end of the big pond, you know what I mean?

I'm surprised that Falcon Crest was still on the air anywhere in this galaxy let alone this planet.

Personally I'm not surprised that Springer/Povich/Lake is a staple of Brit TV. It's a distraction from their own chav's and yobbos.

(Then again the chav's and yobs are probably the core audience.)
