Quote of the Day

That it's from a Frenchman and not a deafening chorus of American feminists is an embarrassment.

..."In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity," Sarkozy said to extended applause in a speech at the Chateau of Versailles southwest of Paris.

"The burqa is not a religious sign, it's a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement—I want to say it solemnly," he said.
"It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic."
It has no business ANYWHERE.

I can't imagine what it's like being inside one of those things -- "hot" and "claustrophobic" come to mind, not to mention feeling invisible.

Imagine the French showing more spine for women than NOW.

Once my wife (who is not American by birth) asked me why I was such a fervent supporter of Israel over the Arabs.

I said "Simple. One side is part of Enlightenment culture. The other side wraps its women up in sheets. No contest."

That says it all, John. Last time I looked, forcing women to wear concealing clothing was a sexist act. Unless you're Muslim, of course.

A missionary speaking at our church Sunday said it succinctly: the philosophy in a lot of cultures is that "women should be like water: silent, and having no shape". You'd think he was talking about the 1st century, not the 21st.

Well, at least we now have proof that Sarkozy has more balls than NOW does...
