One of the odd things about these pictures from the riots/protests is that on the back of all of the riot police it says..."police."

They don't have a word in Farsi for "police"?

Or maybe they bought all their riot gear from the LAPD during California's "Going Out Of Business" sale.

Farsi, unlike Arabic, is an Indo-European language, so the word could actually be the same. Moreover, the modern concept of police is a 19th-century innovation, so it could be a loanword from either English or its language of origin, French. The modernizing Shahs of the 19th century worked with both the British and the French in restructuring their government, so that would make sense.
