Renowned Restaurant Nobu Warns Diners Not to Eat Its Endangered Tuna

- Chris Park

Celebrity hotspot and renowned Japanese restaurant Nobu has written a note to diners at its London restaurants warning them not to eat the bluefin tuna on the menu because it is endangered, the London Telegraph reported Wednesday.

The restaurant, popular with stars like Brad Pitt and Kate Moss, calls the $50 dish on its own menu "environmentally challenged." It asks patrons to "ask your server for an alternative."

Where to begin? The most obvious point would be the fact that they left it ON the menu. If it's ON the menu, then they must still be willing to serve it if someone hasn't any "save the bluefin" misgivings. OR...if one of their glitterati clientele rationalizes that ~ again, since it's still ON the menu ~ there must be a corresponding scombroid corpse on a cold slab in the kitchen, so...WTF? Can't let his sacrifice be in vain! Order the tuna, since he's dead already.

Gosh. Restaurant, patron, green conscience . Win, win, win.

Wait until they start serving dolphin steaks.

So basically they are telling their patrons to let the fish rot.

It's already dead - so it died for nothing.

This calls into question whether one should consider eating elsewhere. After all, with that sort of logical approach to their menu - what else is going on behind the scenes with the food???

Pretty sure I don't want to know...

Nobu is overpriced, inauthentic shit anyway. Even the one in Tokyo. :D

Go to Sushi Yasuda" instead.

Arrrgh. Effed up the link. Sorry.

Good grief. I suspect it's on there as sort of a judgey thing - that if a patron orders it, there's some greenie back in the kitchen ready to spit in their food (or worse). Like some kind of twisted Purity Test.

If I went into a restaurant that had that kind of smug nannying thing written on the menu, I'd walk out.

Look, I'm not gonna walk into a restaurant and ask for panda steak or something, but this is just stupid.

For fifty dollars I can get two extra large sushi platters and Asahi beer at Hayashi Restaurant in Gurnee.

Only a fool would fork out fifty dollars for a slice of bluefin tuna.

What's wrong with panda steak, Ricki? Too gamey?

"Nobu is overpriced, inauthentic shit anyway."

So is most "foreign" food in London that doesn't come from a former British colony. Forget trying to do good sushi, I never even found good pizza (but plenty of it that was horrible). Best Indian food in the world--way better than India according to most Anglo-Indian friends--not so good on, say, Mexican food.

Hahahaha - first comment back and Ricki's in midseason form. "Panda steak." Brilliant. Hope your time away was restful and fun, Ricki.
