Well, Thank Goodness
When I first heard about the amazingly thoughtful and appropriate gift that President Obama gave to the Queen of England I was somewhat afraid they would leave out some timeless and vital examples of towering American thought and expression that would inspire Her Majesty even in her darkest hours, but thanks to The Most Professional And Experienced Administration Evuh my fears were, of course, groundless

Dude, you're the leader of the freakin' free world. If you wanted to, you could probably walk over to the Smithsonian and say, "Yeah, look. I need a really impressive present for an important person" and they'd probably GIVE some UNIQUE thing out of their collection.
Hell, you could probably have given her an American bank. Or GM.
This is kind of like the guy who forgets it's his anniversary, so he stops off at the gas station on the way home and buys one of those fake roses that can be taken apart into a pair of lace panties.

Isn't there a permanent staff responsible for protocol matters? The Won must be ignoring them. Some nuance.
The UK Daily Mail had an article gushing over Michelle's fashion smarts. From what I see she's got the same tin ear he does. A girl playing dress-up in her mother's closet would have done a better job.

There's supposed to be, but.....

That's an astounding quote, JeffS. It's like they have no idea that there have been 42 other presidents, and there's 220 years' worth of precedent for handling the routine events for a head of state. There's nothing they need to learn from anyone else, because NOBODY ELSE in the history of EVER has ever been as smart.
