At Least You Don't Have to Yell

..."Hey A$$hole!! Down in front!!" for that price.

The price of an average premium ticket is $510 for the Yankees and $150 for the Mets.

My family is going to the Somerset Patriots (Independent) opening night game tonight.

7 premium field box seat tickets: $87.50
Estimate for refreshments ($10/head): $70
Parking: $5

Total: 162.50

That gets us one equivalent ticket at a Mets game and maybe one beer but I still can't go to the game because the tolls from here to Flushing are outrageous.

So why haven't I been to NYC to see a baseball game in probably nearly 20 years?

That looks like such a nice stadium, Thomas. It's the one right off of 287, right?

Some great places to eat in Somerset after the game, too!

I may go to a Blueclaws game again this summer. The minor league games are just a hell of a lot of fun.

We watched the Cardinals/Mets in St. Louis last night and that place was only a third full. The announcers kept saying "Slowly filling up..." NOT. If I remember correctly (which is rare), major dad was saying something to the effect that the entire reviled Wall Street bonuses amount would have only paid for two Yankees.

Minor league games also have great promotional nights. I'm particluarly fond of 'buy 1, get 1 free' beers on "Ladies Night". Highly discriminatory, but major dad appreciates the savings.

And the hilarity of watching me try to negotiate slogging safely back to the seats schlepping four sloshing cervesas.

Yes, right off I-287. I've also been to games in Camden (the Riversharks) and Newark (the Bears). They're all nice new stadiums but I think Somerset is the best of the three. Patriots raise the flag tonight for last year's championship. Go Pats!

And our manners!! A VERY warm Swill welcome, Thomas!

The Trenton Thunder have a decent park too. I haven't been to Somerset yet but the field looks gorgeous.

We had something close to nirvana here in Tucson until this year. TEP, the home of the (AAA) Tucson Sidewinders was less than 10 minutes from our little bario box.

Free parking. Our "regular parking space" was 21 spaces from the gates.
$2 Taco Tuesdays where we got in to a (AAA) game for a total of $4 bucks. $1 Thursdays where any kind of beverage was just a buck. Every Friday was Fireworks' Friday.

On any night General Admission was just $4
The best seat was only $8, and this was for (AAA).

Alas! Gone to Reno! But we now have our own Independent (Tucson Toros) coming May 21st.

I belong to a linux users group that has an annual outing to see the Trenton Thunder play. I haven't made one yet but would like to go. I think they're an AA affiliate of the Yankees.

When the NHL was on strike, two of my daughters accompanied me to a Trenton Titans playoff game. That was a fun evening and a very nice arena.

The Thunder stadium is the one right off the end of 195, right?

I think I had to make a u-turn in their parking lot when 'Fly and I were coming back from Genos.

Must have been hard to do with the wheel slipping through your cheesey fingers...

Posted by: tree hugging sister at April 23, 2009 01:59 PM

Right you are, Mr. B - just off 195, in view of the (vain)glorious golden dome. They are the AA Yanks affiliate - though when they first started they were the AA affiliate for the Sawx. Spider and I saw the Reading Phillies shut out Nomar and the Thunder wayyyy back when.

And for the record, it wasn't cheez wiz but old-fashioned, honest American steak grease. I know because I was there, and all my spare napkins were of no avail. I'll bring a Shamwow on the 16th for the next run.

You know, 'Fly, as we go to Genos on the 16th we ought to stop at a Dunkin' and raise a fried and sugared toast to Sis' honor.

Plus all that powdery yummness might help me grip the steering wheel a tad better.
