The Coalition of the Swilling

As I read in one Dark Knight 'graphic novel':

"I smell their fear....and it is sweet."

One of my professors is a federal judge of some substantial prominence. He is a repubican through and through. He started class today with an extended diatribe about how Palin is a disaster and totally unprepared for the job. He said Truman was unprepared but at least he served in WWII (sic) and he was an exceptionally hard worker.

I'm not sure what the hard working implication was supposed to mean.

i like this judge and his class so far, I think I'll learn a lot from him. But his comments, combined with some off-the-cuff remarks of other people in the political machines, such as Noonan, only highlight to me that Palin is perfect for the job. She frightens the political class, even her own party's political machine. Perhaps I should say "especially" her party's political machine.

The judge began by asking who thought Palin was qualified for the job. There are only three qualifications for the job; age, natural citizenship, and votes. So, yeah, she's qualified. People who want qualified candidates have really low standards.

I'm more interested in character and ideology. And if she isn't part of a political machine, better for us. If partisanship prevents anything from getting done, then she's perfect.

What may just spook these jokers the most is that Palin may wind up being excellent, without the Ivy League cred or the elitist mentality. She may well prove Bill Buckley's [PBUH] quip that he'd rather be governed by the first 100 people in the Boston phone book than the Senate.

They're scared that all the phony-baloney "qualifications" and media blessings will be proven irrelevant next to hard work, common sense, decent values, and a normal life. Everything they stand for will be undermined. That's why they've gotten so unhinged, so quickly. Sarah Palin is the refutation of their entire life and philosophy, and that can't be easy on them.

Nicely said, Skyler! I think that you sum up Governor Palin's potential and promise very well.

And, like you, I want to see the pot stirred now and then. Makes for a better place to live and work.

Skyler, I've dealt with at least a hundred judges--state and federal, trial and appellate--and while their legal talents have varied widely, I'd say only maybe three or four had a clue about how politics really works.
