Happy Birthday to our sister service and the damndest set of sailors ever recruited!

Too many people in today's feel-good culture ascribe heroism to anything from not dying from a disease to graduating from school. They really don't know what the word means.

These films made my heart jump into my throat at the danger and horror being experienced by the people on those ships and the bravery those rescuers displayed in saving them.

I don't care how much equipment you have or how much training you've been given, to do what these Coasties have done is the real meaning of heroism.

But the very beginning of this ad reminded me of a late 70's ad I saw only one time as a kid. They showed coasties doing all sorts of things that coasties do, but at the end they focused on a boarding party and a coastie with a .38 strapped to his waist and the parting tag line, "The Coast Guard, another of the armed services."

I was never sure if it was a parody or not.
