I Think I'm Turning Beijing-ese, I Think I'm Turning Beijing-ese

...I really sing-so.

Spanish basketball red-faced over slit-eyed Olympic photo

I never really quite get how Americans are always painted as the big, insensitive, racist cowboy ASSholes.

Really. I don't.

Well... THIS American might be painted that way: I think it's funny.

Of course, I admit I have no taste and I basically think it's funny because it is in such bad taste....

I think it's kinda hilarious, too, in a cringe-inducing, sophomoric kind of way. All jocks are jerks, pretty much (GOD, major dad is gonna KILLS me for that one {8^P) and most young goof balls are subject to gorilla sabotaging group photos.

But THIS is noteworthy because it was actually shot for an ADVERTISEMENT!!!! Someone PAID for someone else to come up with that. I mean, come ON! NObody's THAT crazy here, because we know where it'd end up.

They claimed it was an affectionate send-up of their hosts.

Sure. And the Chinese gymnasts are all 17.

Of course they are. Any news articles from last year mentioning that one of them was 13 is a Western forgery.

Affectionate send-up of their hosts. Right.

And when the olympics are in Africa, do we get Al Jolsen and blackface as an affectionate send-up?

Well, my Guard unit once participated in a major Japanese military exercise. In Japan, of course.

It's traditional to exchange gifts between like units. Our commander was dissuaded was taking a model of the Enola Gay with him as a gift; that was not hard to do, as he was only semi-serious.

My suggestion of taking t-shirts from this school as gifts was shot down even faster. This in spite of the fact that we have share the same state.

So......by and large, no. But some of us have a sense of humor not appreciated by some mentalities (or lack thereof, in some cases).

LOL - I want one of those shirts!

Screw 'em if they can't take a joke. Even a stupid joke.

did you notice that the guy in the front on the right also seems to be flipping the bird with his left hand?

"Screw 'em if they can't take a joke. Even a stupid joke."

Screw you, Gunslinger. My wife's Taiwanese, and she was pissed, as pissed as she was at Rosie O'Donnell. I'm supposed to laugh it off when someone does that to my kids? An adult does that around my kids and I'll open my biggest can of Southern-fried whoop-ass on them.

I'm as un-PC as they come, but you don't make fun of how someone looks, you make fun of how they act (and given the history of Yasukuni, I think Jeff's idea was funny - when the Japanese get the Class A war criminals out of there, we should stop making fun of them for WWII).

The Spanish were offensive, pure and simple. The Spaniards have no Chinese community at home to get pissed, so they thought they could get away with it.

Gregor - that's not intentional - in most of Europe the middle finger is not the bird, and we have to coach our ex-pats not to point with it over here.
