major dad and I spent a quiet ride home from Mobile, just now. On I-10 East, we were surrounded by Mississippi and Louisiana license plates, the shoulder was dotted with broken down vehicles carrying the same and the Welcome Center was jammed. Sobering. And terribly sad. We may be on the eastern edge of the official cone, but my heart's with Rob and everyone to the west of us. And the hard right Ivan took ~ when we all thought he was heading to Biloxi ~ has taught us to play this like we were dead center. It wouldn't take long for us to be, should Gustav exercise his capricious side.
Note to self: if the family chariot will be required to perform evacuatory maneuvers, ascertain it can go further than 200 miles without exploding. There is considerably less stress that way.

Thanks, ths. Looks like we're in for a rough ride if Gustav maintains his current course and intensity. These things are only supposed to come every 40 years or so. This is my 4th major hurricane (Betsy, Camille, Katrina, and now, Gustav). I'm not quite 160 years old but I'm starting to feel like it.

All I want from Gustav is some rain up the Ohio Valley. No major damage, no nasty storm surges on the coast. Just some rain for us thirsty midwesterners.

Sis, south Georgia is praying it misses you guys and NOLA.
I guess the best way to pray is that it weakens to less than a hurricane. After all, I don't want it to stay strong, but miss you, then other people will have problems. I don't want it to turn around because then it would hit Mexico and I'd feel bad.
I'm with ricki, weaken, weaken, weaken.
