Note to Self:

Before asking major dad to use a multi-meter to check AA batteries for juice (since the BRAND SPANKIN' NEW camera won't turn on for JACK, no matter WHAT you do), find some other indication on the camera case where the positive terminal is supposed to be. Or, after repeated attempts to load said batteries according to the diagram you think you see (with no joy) and point out to him, major dad will gently tell you:

"That's a screw."

%$#@*&%!!!!!!

I don't care what Bingley says about him, major dad is a nice guy. No wonder you're so attached.

Or, if the battery came preinstalled, be sure to pull out that little plastic sheet that prevents the terminals from making contact and transfering power from battery to camera.

I'm ashamed to say I spent nearly an hour trying to figure out what was worng witht the freakin camera before seeing the tiniest of plastic edge. (Did the same damn thing with a printer cartridge once when I was in a hurry.)

This sort of technological confusion is inevitable, especially amongst us baby boomers. Sooner or later, we will all fall victim.....
