I cry foul. Beer is not the oldest alcoholic drink. Scientific evidence and common sense show that wine is centuries older than beer. Wine is made using the yeast that naturally occurs on the skin of the grape or fig. Beer requires adding yeast. It makes sense that wine, requiring fewer steps to make it, would have come first, and the scientific and archaeological evidence support that conclusion.

I'd suggest that wine was being made even before leavened bread.

The source for this claim if from "Ancient Wine: The Search for the Origins of Viniculture" by Patrick E. McGovern. It's a fascinating book, I highly recommend it.

I agree, Skyler. Harvesting grapes (and making juice that went 'bad' in a 'good' way) was certainly done long before anyone thought of raisin' grain.

I clicked 'beer' before reading all the way down :) or I would have answered 'wine' as well.

Eh, yer just a typical bitter white dude, Bings - with yer churches and beer and blogs.

Ha! I knew it was wine, but figured they'd go for beer... who knew I could actually think as wacky as an online test.

I take exception, Diptera!! I am bitter, yet have no church. I blog, yet have no beer. I Sig and am usually Sauer, especially if it's 45 or so...but am not a Pennsatransylvanian.

YOU know what I mean...
