Rock 'n' Roll Trivia (Lovin' Spoonful edition)

Well, I spent another bike ride with the Mamas and the Papas. Until I heard the song "Creeque Alley" lo these many years ago, I didn't know that the M&tPs were so closely connected with the Lovin' Spoonful, whose songs I have loved for many years. Well, there's actually one that I'm not overly fond of even though it happens to be their only #1 song. Funny that.

Anyway, I do like these guys and since people (especially Joel) know the connection, it seems apropos to go with them. So here we go:

1) Isn't it a pity that there doesn't seem to be what? [Jim: Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city]

2) I was just 13, a musical, proverbial knee-high. What did I hear? [Greg: Nashville Cats]

3) I couldn't bear to wait an extra minute if you dawdle. So darlin', do what? [Jim (Greg is almost on target):: Darlin' be home soon]

4) I would have loved you anyway, so you didn't have to do what? [Julie amd Greg: You didn't have to be so nice]

5) I'm blowing a day to take a walk in the sun and do what? [Greg has the right song but not the right lyric]

6) Caught up in a summer shower, drying while it soaks the flowers. Who all is there? [Greg: You and me and rain on the roof]

7) Sometimes you really dig a girl the moment you kiss her, before getting distracted. What does her father tell you? [Jim and Greg: Better go home, son, and make up your mind]

8) If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues, just go and listen. What will it do? [Jim: It'll start with a smile which, of course, you won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you try]

Okay, let's see if I can do this in the right order:

Julie: Yes

Greg (first comment):
2) No
3) Yes (almost, see below)
4) Yes
5) No (right song, wrong lyric)

Greg (second comment):
6) Yes
7) Yes

Jim: Right on all counts (and exact lyric on #3)

Greg (last comment):
3) Nashville Cats, indeed.

Whoops. Right on #2 for Nashville Cats.

2 - more specifically, you heard music that blasted you sky-high. The record man said every one was a Yellow Sun record from Nashville.

5 - to fall on my face on somebody's new-mown lawn

NB to Greg - Jug Band Music is what the doctor says to give you, after which you ought to feel just fine.
