Whoops! You Thought It Was Just Teddy Kennedy

...being an elitist pig.

Wind farms may threaten whooping cranes

Three steps forward and two steps back.

He is just being an elitist pig. But they do whack the occasional bird.

So do jet engines, Ken. But that doesn't stop the Rich and Famous from endangering those poor whooping cranes.

(putting my ecologist hat on)

Actually, if they are INTELLIGENTLY situated (that is, not necessarily avoiding particular locales because of the dreaded NIMBY), they're really not THAT great of a hazard to birds. Migration paths are fairly well-known, and if you stay out of the migration paths..and it's not as grim as the article let on, it's not like the whole swath of the U.S. from the Appalachians to the Rockies should be off-limits for wind farms.

(ecologist hat off, political snarker hat on:)

I kind of doubt that Mahhhtha's Vineyaaaaahd is on the whooping crane migration route. So, sorry Teddy, you can't claim THIS as a reason why you shouldn't have to look at the things.

How about that? Nuclear power plants are actually more eco-friendly than wind farms.

Oh, fer sure. Not only do nukes NOT hack them into whooping hash, but the glow-in-the-dark features make them exceptionally easy to track on those long swings south.

I'd say everybody wins.
