Well, This Is Disappointing

She seemed to me to be a sensible kid

NEW YORK (AP) -- Another Spears baby is reportedly on the way -- and it's not Britney's.

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she's pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.

"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she said. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

What, did you skip your health classes on "Zoey 101"? How much of a "shock" can this be? "So unexpected"?

What a great spokesman for Nickelodeon.

Disappointing? Try horrifying.

Jamie and Lynne Spears? Suck at their job.

Yeah, I said it. One fucked-up kid? Bad luck. TWO fucked-up kids? Bad parenting.

You're 100% correct, Lisa. That mother is 'shocked' that her 16 year old "baby" is knocked up. Puh-lease.

I think she and her mother are the only people in the Western Hemisphere who are shocked. (When this situation happened to someone I know, the parents were the first to blame themselves even though the "children" were late 20s/early 30s.) My first thought when the morning news announced it was, "I'll bet the father's 18 or older." I felt sad to find out I was right. Yeah, it isn't quite right to chalk up this "accident" to two dumb kids.

One thing I don't understand in her statement was that part about, "I can't be judgmental because I put myself in this position." I'm hoping she dropped her SAT prep classes to take parenting classes and that's why she doesn't know the difference between "judgmental" and hypocritical" b/c I think that's closer to what she meant. Of course, I'm also hoping that she will take this opportunity to fade into obscurity so she can raise the kid right--but as Lisa alluded to, given her upbringing, it's kind of a longshot.

Given her role models, Kate, the odds sure aren't in favor of 'right', are they?

I assume the 'father' will be charged?

[cough]

How could she not know how bad of an idea this is, with the elder sister she has? Isn't Britney's entire life after breaking up with Justin a giant, neon "AVOID AT ALL COSTS" sign?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

"I assume the 'father' will be charged?"

Yeah, I don't get that. The possibility isn't even mentioned. When I was 19, a 16 year old girl was definite jailbait and both legally and socially off-limits as far as sex was concerned. Have things changed that much?
