Makes Sense To Me

Although I'm not quite sure how one proves one's status

Seventy-three percent (73%) of American voters say that when someone is pulled over for a traffic violation, police officers should routinely check to see if that person is in the country legally. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 18% disagree while 9% are not sure.

If someone pulled over for a traffic violation is found to be in the country illegally, 62% of voters say that person should be deported. Seventeen percent (17%) disagree while 21% are not sure.

Unfortunately we're going to have to come up with some sort of Government issued ID which shows one's status.

A traffic stop is not the time to check for immigration status. You check for that before you issue a driver's license. Said license should expire the same day his/her visa does.

I agree 100%, Rob, but when you have states that are issuing licenses to illegals...

Well Bing, those states should have all federal funding cut off completely. Same for those so-called sanctuary cities.

None of which will ever happen because the politicians aren't interested in their constituents or upholding their duty to this country and especially our Constitution.

I would offer the thought that illegals often do NOT have licenses, valid or otherwise, and that's the optimum time to snap their little asses up. They also, if they HAVE purloined a 'valid' license won't have insurance which, in most states I know of, as necessary an accoutrement to legal driving privileges as a license.

Spitzer says that giving illegals driver's licenses will make the roads safer. Someone explain that one to me please since having a license doesn't seem to make the people very good drivers down here.

"I would offer the thought that illegals often do NOT have licenses, valid or otherwise..."

Indeed. I see at least a dozen No Valid DL's by people who are obviously illegals at every arraignment. It's a criminal charge, but unless they can't even provide an address, very rarely one that an officer makes a custodial arrest for: they're usually just given a citation with a court date on it and sent on their way. But without booking someone to the jail, there's no way for the feds to put an immigration hold on them.
