"To Kill a Mockingbird"

UPDATE: I am gobschmacked. It is local BLACK leaders who want the word replaced!!

Can you believe it? If ever there was a paean to human decency, it's this play.

There is ignorance. And there is IGNORANCE.

"Based on concern from a local NAACP chapter:"

Ironic that the National Association for the Advancement of COLORED People would be the ones getting their noses bent out of joint.

There's still a uncomfortable number of Bob Ewell's in this world, and we have more than our share in this redneck of the woods. Like major dad says, "The Civil War still hasn't ended for a fair amount of folks around here." So you try to censor a groundbreaking vehicle in the fight for those same civil rights? Those aren't lessons that need to be muted and they're lessons that young blacks aren't learning. They have no idea why that word is SO revolting since they feel free to use it so casually. No idea what that word cost people. (Nor do they have any sense, not only of the Civil Rights struggles but of the horrible, dehumanizing Jim Crow America that their grandparents lived under.)

If they can't tell the difference between the filth spews out of Flava-Flav's mouth and a Pulitzer Prize winning play, then, to quote Mr. T, "I pity the fools."

Y'know what I like most about Harper Lee?

She had something to say, she said it EXTREMELY well, and then she shut the hell up.

My kinda woman.
