File This Under "Your Tax Dollars At Work"

Those eagle-eyed protectors of impressionable youth at the FCC strike again

THE call letters KUNT have landed at a yet-unbuilt low-power digital television station in Wailuku, Maui.

Alarmingly similar to a word the dictionary says is obscene, the call letters were among a
15-page list of new call letters issued by the Federal Communications Commission and
released this week.

The same station owner also received KWTF for a station in Arizona.

Imagine their advertising jingles.

Hmmm.

I'd kill for the call letter "KWTF".

If I didn't know better, I'd figure KUNT for an Air America talk radio station.

I *hope* KWTF has fun with it. I hope they don't turn all, "Oh, we didn't KNOW what those letters STOOD FOR" and totally ignore the great comic possibility.

I'm already hearing "K-WTF!" in my head, sung by one of those female choirs they used to have doing the call letters of stations. And I'm chuckling over it.

There was a sketch on SNL with some "Up With People" knock-off group, each of the four standing for a different happy quality:

Understanding
Caring
Kindness
Friendship

The whole sketch consisted of a horrified children's show host trying to prevent their T-shirts from spelling out a certain Friday word.

"We should really move Friendship up to the top of the list!"

NOOOOOOOO!
