As he notes, he's gone in to work gratis every day since he retired in 1985, so he doesn't owe jack to anybody. It's like the scene in 'Fried Green Tomatoes', where Kathy Bates says, "I'm older and have more insurance." It gives you a certain freedom to stop speaking with a forked tongue.

Not before checking to make sure something didn't burn in the oven or on the stove, and not before checking to see that someone wasn't sneaking a cig in the basement.

That was a FANTASTIC interview given by Mr. Bryson. It's sheer genius how he's going about the pro bono work. I think he has the Dem's figure out ;).
