The Breck Boy Speaks!

Here's what he has to say on the SCOTUS decision on PBA:

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards released the following statement about today's 5-4 Supreme Court ruling upholding the federal abortion ban.

"I could not disagree more strongly with today's Supreme Court decision. The ban upheld by the Court is an ill-considered and sweeping prohibition that does not even take account for serious threats to the health of individual women. This hard right turn is a stark reminder of why Democrats cannot afford to lose the 2008 election. Too much is at stake - starting with, as the Court made all too clear today, a woman's right to choose."

I have to agree with you on one point, Mr. Ex-Senator: the ban was ill-considered, most especially by the Former Junior Senator from North Carolina who along with Senators Kerry and Biden were the only Senators who didn't even bother to vote on this bill when it was passed in 2003. I guess it wasn't such a "hard right turn" then, was it?

Who needs the Taliban when you have the Republican party?

Interesting comment there, Lt. It's now "Taliban" to kill a fully formed, partially born baby? One only a few inches from being a person?

BTW, refresh my memory, please. Exactly how much of the baby has to be outside the birth canal before it's a "person"? All of it? Most of it? Should it be legal to kill it when one toe is still inside?

I favor keeping abortion legal pretty much along the same lines drawn by Roe v. Wade, though that is one of the most ridiculous decisions handed down by the Supremes, but there are limits when the baby is at a development point where it could be delivered alive by caesaean section. But it sounds like the fine Ell Tee is of the same persuasion as some of the more rabid, foaming "feminists" from college who referred to the baby as a "fetus/parasite".

In light of certain special interest groups who expect our current federal government to follow the lead of the Bush administration, an important point needs to be made widely known: the new abortion decision from the US Supreme Court will not save the life of a single foetus.

What it will mean is that women who have terminal late-term complications (for themselves or their foetus) in a wanted pregnancy will be prohibited from using a procedure - intact dilation and extraction (IDX) - that protects their future ability to bear children. [more on this at Bitch PhD]

Indeed, for their future health and safety many of these women will have to terminate any future pregnancies early, because they will be unable to safely carry a pregnancy to full-term. Follow the maths: there will in fact be more abortions as a result of this ruling, not fewer.
