...along with all the gods and little fishes ~ this beats "Twinkie defense" all to hell.

Jury considers death for child-killer Couey
Defense argues man who buried alive 9-year-old has ‘mind of a child’

...“John Couey sits here today a 48-year-old man with the mind of a child,” defense lawyer Alan Fanter said. “A lot of things happened in Mr. Couey’s life, and to Mr. Couey, that he had no control over.”

Couey also was born prematurely and suffered from a birth defect of “floppy ears” that caused him to be bullied and teased in school, Fanter said.

So the defense is "when bad ears happen to bad people, it's not their fault if things go...badder?"

Odd. I don't see too many children burying other children alive.

Insanity is no excuse. If it's not a rational human being then it has no place in society nor does it deserve to be kept alive by society's purse. If it was a rational human being and did those kinds of things, it deserves death as well.

We put down rabid dogs for public safety, do we not?

Every single excuse put up by the defense doesn't even come close to mitigating the crime (which means it's probably even money whether this guy fries or not).

I do believe this fellow is attempting to revise the classic definition of "chutzpah".

I should remind you folks, however: this is a Dade County jury. Unlike most of Florida, they just might actually buy this sort of crap.

Oh, Dade is the county with the retarded Democrats who can't punch a ballot correctly?

The dude's home free.

Whoa! Turns out the sickie is looking at the Grim Reaper after all.

No, Ken, that's Palm Beach County. Dade is bad, but a jury from Palm Beach or my own beloved Broward would indeed be even worse.

Gunslinger...holy shit, WTF is my law school classmate doing in that picture?! He's the one on the right, former Dade prosecutor last I knew.

Oh, fricken' A.

Almost EVERYONE I know was "teased and bullied" as a child. Good lord, I know I was. I was a funny looking kid, I needed glasses, I had braces, I was a crybaby, I developed early.... I got it from all quarters. So much so that had I known about homeschooling back then, I would have ASKED to have been homeschooled. (I was also, in seventh grade, subjected to regular harrassment - which would be called sexual harrassment today - by a classmate).

But you know what? I'm not abusing people. I'm not burying bodies under my porch. I'm a productive, taxpaying member of society.

Sometimes, when a person is effed up, it's their own damn fault.

Oh COME ON, ricki! We all know you want to...I do, too, but I'm short a porch here in concrete slab land.

And no it's not.

It's not, it's not, it's NOT.
