A Update on Saving Your Bacon

...and time at Target.

Target is transferring cashiers who avoid pork
Some Somali Muslims say the retailer is overreacting to customer criticism.

"Overreacting to customers" should be the first rule of customer service, I would think. These people have no clue about free enterprise in what should be a religion free zone. I won't comment further, because then elimosa will show up and natter on about circumcision and Bingley will cradle his crotch and moan like an accident victim and then we'll hear Jesus never died and...I can't take any more of it. Clueless and willfully ignorant are two different things and I'm not indulging the porkless pretenders at this point.

Anyways, a warm Swill salute to Dave for pointing out the latest. Happy Spring!

I would have thought that Mr. Bingley cradling his crotch would be a reflex learn from growing up with you, Sis. I hear you can be mighty mean at times!

Back O/T:

"This is being blown way out of proportion," said Abdi Sheikhosman, a professor of Islamic law at the University of Minnesota Law School. "Pork products represent a very small percentage of Target's overall products. ... Accommodations could have been made."

Accommodations were made.....in favor of the customer. Yer in America, putz, where "freedom of religion" goes both ways. Deal with it.

"Some Somali Muslims say the retailer is overreacting to customer criticism."

Some Somali muslims can't even grasp the most basic tenets of capitalism. No wonder they live in stone-age conditions.

"This is being blown way out of proportion," said Abdi Sheikhosman, a professor of Islamic law at the University of Minnesota Law School. "Jooos represent a very small percentage of Target's overall customers.... Accommodations could have been made. Someone else could come over and check them out; we shouldn't have to"

it's not such a leap, is it?

Hmmmm.

What's really funny is that people who've been serving in Bahrain, a muslim majority country in the Middle East, the muslim cashiers don't have a problem in handling sealed packages of pork.

Even here in the USA I haven't heard of any muslims having trouble handling sealed packages of pork other than the Somali's in Minneapolis. I've even asked a few local muslim taxi drivers here in New Jersey about it and I've yet to find one that would be bothered by it.

*shrug* it's not like they're being asked to eat the stuff or handle raw meat. Not like any customers would want a cashier handling raw meat either regardless of religion.

Frankly this is just another example of strategic offensive/tactical defensive being promulgated by Islamic extremists. I fully expect to see this nonsense copied by proponents of illegal aliens soon. Really the only way to defeat America in anything is to use our only weakness; our desire to please others.

OT:
Right up until that welcome mat is worn out and people start getting really really pissed off. Which I expect is going to be a major feature in the 2008 Presidential election cycle. While illegal immigration is a major issue in the GOP side of the election it's also the sleeping dragon on the Democratic side. One that the GOP could use to capture the African-American vote and use as a club to smash the teacher's unions, both of which are major pillars of money and votes for the Democrats.

But the GOP is so incredibly spineless, disconnected and really just politically hapless that I doubt we'll see it.

Hmmmm.

Did my comment get eaten?

That seems to be happening a lot tonight.

*shrug* oh well. My mojito is done, time for bed.

It looks like it finally showed up...sorry, ed. MT gets clunky sometimes.

And you're right. These folks are the masters of the slippery slope.

I think this and the taxi issue at the airport(Muslim drivers refusing fares that have alcohol with them) are an attempt by some fundies here to carve out some special rights. I also think that they thought that the liberal Twin Cities and it's general "don't make waves" attitude would be a pushover. Not on these issues, at least for now. I'm guessing they'll keep trying though.

There's always San Francisco, Dave. Or Portland.
