Americana observations on our I-65 'vacation' trek back home (major dad's) to Indiana.

1. Outside Birmingham, a sign on the back of a semi trailer made me think of turducken.

CAUTION: Inedible Contents

(Why anyone would be foraging in the back of it...)

2. Outside Louisville, one of those large, gaudy, do-it-yourself billboards.

TATTOO CHARLIE ~ done while you wait!!

(I would think it hard to do any other way...)

3. Just over the bridge from Louisville, across the Indiana state line, an official sign announcement.

Exit Zero

(Gotta start somewhere...)

4 Motoring toward Indianapolis, a large plastic (I hope) pair of testicles dangled from a tow ball on the back of a trailer.

5. Don't miss Exit 6 on S I-65. Actually, it's hard to miss.

Boobie Bungalow Gentlemen's Club

6. North of Birmingham, the ultimate Marx Brothers' moment on a bridge sign.

DUCK

Scenic River

God Bless America.

There was a Mexican restaurant up the street that had a sign in the window that read "no food or drink allowed inside."

There is a 29 mph speed limit sign in Clinton, IN. I have a picture of it. Seems that over 30 mph, the State Police have to patrol the road every once in a while, and the town has to fork over some cash for the "service". So, 29 mph posted speed limits make everybody happy, right?

Apparently there is a bump up in the tax when the speed limit reaches 35, so I heard reports of 34 mph signs in the area, too, although I never saw one.

Hose-iers.

Like I said before, every fall thousands of students flock to ISU. That increases both the average IQ of Vigo County, and the rest of Indiana.

It's on an overpass.

Major Dad - you have relatives in Vigo County?!?!?

I'm so sorry for them.

Seriously, I saw more Klan activity in that county in 3 years at Rosem-Hosem than I did in my previous 18 years in VA, MD and WVA. And my uncle in MD lives in the same town as a former Grand Dragon.

I must congratulate Major Dad on the excellence that is the Indiana Turnpike. It's the finest stretch of highway it's been my privilege to drive in the entire USA. Lovely 75 mph limit, friendly and courteous drivers, and Starbucks rest stops.
