Mel, Mel, Mel.

You are just such a douchebag.

You see, this is one of the big reasons why drunkenness is considered a sin - it means losing control of your will. It's dumb to say that it excuses everything that follows; sort of like saying your car is responsible for all that damage, and not you, since you closed your eyes and let go of the wheel.

And stepped on the gas, 'Fly.

That, and drinking doesn't make you say things contrary to your personal beliefs. It only removes your inihibitions and good judgement. Mel's comments about Jews were probably a reflection of his true thoughts, not something he said just because he was drunk and didn't really mean.

Douche. I hope all his "Evil Jew" producer friends in Hollywood remember this the next time he's looking for them to kick him down some money for a film.

...drinking doesn't make you say things contrary to your personal beliefs. It only removes your inihibitions and good judgement.

100% correct. And, as Emily will vouch, I become even more charming after many drinks...

A long time ago, that blivet Marlon Brandon issued an irate missive that "the Jews run Hollywood." And then a lot of people were angry. At the time I worked for New Line Cinema and over lunch convinced several of my dining companion why they shouldn't be angry, rather, that they should take the stance of, "Damn right we do" and get on with the business of the day.

This matter with Mel Gibson is entirely different. He believes it. Brando believed the Jews ran Hollywood. He was right. So what?Gibson believes that all that is wrong with the world can be traced directly or indirectly back to the Jews. He is wrong.

However, Emily, he has more money than Croesus and won't be needed any help with funding for his projects. He financed the Passion on his very own. But, BIG but... if Mel thinks he owns Malibu (which he doesn't) there actually ARE a few entities that the Jews do run that will make it very hard for him to get a movie made, regardless of how much cabbage he has.

Douchebag.

Was it Bill Cosby who refuted drunks who say, "It enhances my natural personality!" by saying, "Yeah, but what if you're an asshole?"

(I was getting pretty tired of his "boo-hoo/eyes well with tears/sensitive man/terrible situation" schtick in EVERY frickin' movie he's starred in since Braveheart ANYWAY.)

LOL - yes, Lisa. "Bill Cosby: Himself." I think he's talking about cocaine, not booze, but the principle holds.

Now I suppose we'll have to go on for another year and a day about how "the Passion" was anti-Semitic after all, only based on the railings of its director rather than its content; and "Torquemada" this and "Nazi Pope" that; and on and frickin' on. Thanks, Mel.

Oh you just know that crap's coming, 'Fly.

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at July 31, 2006 02:14 PM

Well, last time I liked him in a movie was Mad Max... which tells you a bit about how much impressed I am by him. (No, I didn't think much of Mad Max - I only liked him in it because he was kinda cute back then.)

Oh - and as for the booze... what Emily said. "...drinking doesn't make you say things contrary to your personal beliefs. It only removes your inihibitions and good judgement."
