Hadji Girl
I'm sure you've heard by now about this new 'scandal' involving the Marines, this "Hadji Girl" song. I've refrained from saying anything about it because I wanted to read the lyrics. And I'm glad I did. Thanks to Michelle Malkin, here they are:

They should have known they were f***ing with a Marine
Durka-Durka, Mohammed Jihad is of course the rallying cry of these fellows
It's a song about a guy who falls in love with a girl who leads him into an ambush by her brother and father, and they kill the girl, not the Marine. And then he kills them, thankfully.
I'll buy his album, durka-durka.
But it's not the typical reaction from the twisted panty brigade that upsets me about this; it's this reaction in The Marine Corps Times that is most troubling: (via LGF)
Islamic scholars and the Marine Corps have condemned an Internet music video called “Hadji Girl” that allegedly shows Marines mocking dead Iraqis.The four-minute video contains images of what is said to be a Marine in Iraq singing a song that seems to glorify killing an Iraqi young girl. The video was removed from the site on which it was posted and where more than 50,000 people viewed it, according to the Council on Islamic Relations, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group.
According to CAIR, the song’s lyrics include the lines: “I grabbed her little sister and put her in front of me. As the bullets began to fly, the blood sprayed from between her eyes, and then I laughed maniacally … I blew those little [expletive] to eternity. They should have known they were [expletive] with Marines.”
"According to CAIR". According to goddamned CAIR!!!!! What spineless a$$wipe in the USMC Brass is condemning a Marine based on a CAIR press release's version of what the lyrics are?
Fine, I will grant that the song may not be in the best of taste or perhaps some desk-bound turd can say it's "inappropriate" or some such rot, but for the USMC to come down hard on this guy based on some squealing from a terrorist-sympathizing group like CAIR is disgusting.

Marine! Don't you know you signed your ability to sing and have fun when you volunteered? How dare you have a sense of humor?
This, to me, is even more disturbing than the Camp Pedleton 8. With that, at least there is some kind of investigation of criminal activity. Here the Corps is just trying to CYA and let the public know that they're all Robotic Automatons that kill the enemy, but feel deep regret in the pits of their souls.
Seriously, this is fantastic recruiting matierial here.

This is utter bilge. I sleep easier at night knowing that soldiers have a different mentality than I do. I'm supposed to be wary of these guys - I'm a civilian and they are professional ass-kickers and name-takers.
When I went to the Intrepid and saw the Vietnam War Vet with the "Viet Cong Hunting Club" patch on his jakcet, I was reassured - it's crude and violent, but hey, BIG breaking news flash, so is war - and I want my side to win and to come home in great numbers, and to do THAT they need to have some esprit de corps. The least I can do is not make them ashamed of it. Who the f*** am I to tell them what's acceptable in that context? For that matter, who the blazing f*** is CAIR? How the hell is "Hadji Girl" worse than any of the little sunshine ditties the Islamabombas sing?
You hear far worse than this (both in content and composition) in gangsta rap, for pity's sake.
If anyone needs me, I'll be in the Angry Dome.

I don't know what's more disturbing that the person who wrote this song thinks that its humorous or the fact that you guys seem to find it funny. It's ironic that Nightfly should fall back on the "war is hell cliche" when we actively chose this hell of a war - it wasn't forced upon us.

Yeah, the irony just keeps piling up...
1 - illustrating my point by complaining about it
2 - "falling back on cliché" accusations from the cliché-ridden
3 - a lecture on proper behavior from someone who knows doodle-squat about how humans actually behave
People who share deadly peril tend to share laughs about it later. It's a necessary and healthy reaction and those who supress it are usually the ones who crack first under the pressure.
About the only unironic thing about you is the dull uniformity of your finger wagging - don't fight, don't laugh, don't show pride in who you are and what you do. Only the sad people understand serious things! Now go eat your brussels sprouts.

It's a song for Christ's sake albeit tasteless. War is Hell and those of us who fight them don't get to pick which ones we fight in. If the lyrics are so upsetting to SP I doubt he/she would last five minutes in the company of Soldiers or Marines (male or female) talking amongst themselves. Guess all the PC types just would not understand, nor do they join the military, thank God.

Well spoken guys. The Mr. Rodgers personality types don't win wars, the John Wayne personality types do win wars. In the good ole days, the Mr. Rodgers types had sense enough to know there was a difference and respect that difference. Hadji Girl is combat humor and like you guys have already said, it is dark, macbre, and in bad taste by everyday standards (although it is a very mild example-believe me), but it is very very necessary for the warriors and cannot be judged by civilian, non-combatant standards.
To all, please write the Commandant and express your displeasure. Tell the Brass Hat REMF's to get off Cpl. Belile's case.
