Why I Love Being Married To An Academic, Part LCMXVIII

Me (in 5:28 am getting ready for work mode): shuffle-shuffle
Bride (in classes-are-over-and-I'm-all-done-with-grading-exams-sleepyhead mode): "H-h-honey, why are you getting up so early? Oh yeah, it's Friday" (smiles and retreats under the covers)

sigh.

Bless her heart! She doesn't suffer through four Scotch lunches like you have to, either. The NERVE of her...

Preach it, brother! But, when classes are in, they are still at home. "Oh, but I'm grading papers!"

Hi Jeremy! It's a pretty handy excuse, actually, that we've used when we haven't felt like going out, and thankfully she doesn't have anywhere near as many papers now that she's teaching college as she did when she was teaching middle school.

She deserves her well earned vacation. A friend of mine mentioned your wife was recently awarded tenure. Congratulations.

That is true, PT. Thanks! She most certainly does!

"she doesn't have anywhere near as many papers now that she's teaching college as she did when she was teaching middle school."

It might be a really good thing that the college kids write less. Dunno where she teaches, but at a lot of state schools, the quality may actually be lower in college than in middle school, causing the irritation / paper coeficient to rise. I never had my high school students mistake "vile" for "vial" like the college students I wrote about. Granted I was teaching AP students shipped in to us college TAs for advanced lab work, but still...

Actually, while they write less and she has fewer of them, which is a lovely combination.
