World Baseball Thingy

Sorry. I just can't care. Much like Olympic hockey or basketball, it's a bunch of pros who are just wearing different uniforms. Yawn.

Well, when Team U.S.A. loses to Mexico among others, it's time to change the channel anyway.

It would be if it were a bunch of amateurs playing eachother, then maybe there might be some type of national pride at stake, some compelling reason to watch. But the few minutes I watched of one game, oh heck it was 'Venezuela' against the 'DR', I think, it was all pros, like watching the Expos play the Mets.

The Mets are pros?

Well, only in that for some reason they get paid.

I don't get the rules. The tie-breakers read like the IRS code, and there's this cockamamie "no more than 65 pitches" thing for a pitcher, after which they MUST get four games off. (Relievers are allowed to go back to back, but only if the first appearance was fewer than 30 pitches; then they have to get at least one day off.) I think the limits go up for the semis and the finals, but that's ridiculous.
