It ALMOST Makes You Want to Send the F*ckers Back

...to the snake pit hell they pulled them out of, along with the ingrates at their organization. I didn't see a simple, grudging "thank you" anywhere in the text.

..."We believe that the illegal occupation of Iraq by Multinational Forces is the root cause of the insecurity which led to this kidnapping and so much pain and suffering in Iraq. The occupation must end.

“Today, in the face of this joyful news, our faith compels us to love our enemies even when they have committed acts which caused great hardship to our friends and sorrow to their families.

...“We pray that Christians throughout the world will, in the same spirit, call for justice and for respect for the human rights of the thousands of Iraqis who are being detained illegally by the U.S. and British forces occupying Iraq.

Bravo to whoever it was in uniform who risked their lives going in to get them.

Geez... what the Hell was that all about?

You nailed the money quote, Ms. Sister - the "insecurity" that leads to kidnapping. The occupation is illegal, but not the oppression and death and beheading and FLAYVIN. But dare I say it, you needed the sentence just before it, too: "They knew that their only protection was in the power of the love of God and of their Iraqi and international co-workers."

Um... maybe those guys with guns and uniforms could have protected you, too? I'm not saying they shouldn't work the nonviolent side of the ledger if that's their conscience - but there's NOTHING wrong with saying, "We support the Iraqis, and it's our mission to alleviate their suffering; the troops are doing their part, and we shall do ours."

I really liked the Loney family statement much better - a brief, heartfelt thank you, without nine paragraphs of self-satisfied bloviating.
