Bait and Switch

...political PARTIES? Well, you could if you wanted to, if this bill gets passed in the Florida legislature.

Hunters and anglers seeking a Florida license soon may find they can take care of other important paperwork at their favorite gun or tackle store: registering to vote.

State Rep. Greg Evers, R-Baker, is sponsoring a bill that would require voter registration materials be provided wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

UPDATE and BUMP: An explanation for Dave, who bemoans the lack of a bill number in the news piece.

They didn't put the number in this one because then beer drinking/bass fishing/bear huntin'/rootin' tootin' REPUBLICANS would KNOW what bill to tell their state representative to support, resulting in MORE REGISTERED REPUBLICANS who seen the sign-up notice at the bait shop and...

"I'll be a horny toad, PawPaw! Didja know'd we could get the voting card here at Diver Dan's? Oh, well shit howdy! I ain't voted since Goldwater won, but fer sure I am now! They done all the work for me."
...and the next thing ya know, there's REPUBLICANS running around with all the little animals up at the State House.

Democrats hate that shit. That's why they didn't put the number in there.

Only YOU can prevent REPUBLICANS.

UPDATE: Thar she blows!

As with most things re: Florida politics, there are quite a few things I could say but won't here in public, so drop me an e-mail at your convenience, THS.

Oh, and one thing I will say is that this is yet another article about legislation that DOESN'T HAVE A FUCKING CITE! This is a huge pet peeve for me: how hard would it really be put the damn bill number in there?!

Gosh, yu r shore right, sir. Us'ns RepUBLICANS are shore are dumb, boy. That is why we kicked your ass in the last two elections. Y'know huh-whats a dummer than an elyphant?
Well, huh-its a demon-crat who tinks a northener could actually win an election in this country!
A suggestion to you idiot-savant Demoncrats. Vote for Mark Warner, or dont, and lose again! Hey, run Hillary!!!! Please???

Frank? Who's the "we" kicking "your" ass? Who's the "idiot-savant Demoncrats" you think you're talking to? Do you know what the concept of "self-deprecating humor" even is?

FYI, my friend Tree Hugging Sister, the esteemed author of this post, may have been born in Japan and grown up in New Jersey, but she lives in Pensacola. You can probably count the number of registered Democrats in Pensacola on one hand: the western Panhandle is by far the most overwhelmingly GOP part of the state. Are you incapable of handling the blow to your ego of someone making a joke about your political party? Even if it's made by another member of said party? Well, then if so, no offense, but you REALLY need to grow a thicker skin. In the immortal words of Mr. Dooley, politics ain't beanbag.

If your words were directed in part to me, I'm gathering since you don't comment here regularly that you don't know I used to work for the Florida Legislature--hardly a bastion of northern lefties--and hence my particular interest in this story.

Tell him Dave J. Even though I'm one of those hunting/fishing guys I thought it was funny. I'm not sure on the merits of the bill, but since it's sponsor's name is Evers, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you, thank you for watchin' my back, my wonderful Daves!! Frank probably didn't check the rest of the Swilling to see if it was a goof or not. Take a moment to check a site out before your panties get in a wad next time. As for the Happy Hillbillies ~ take a note Frank:

They don't call us the 'Redneck Riviera' for nothing, son!
