15 Years Ago Today

...Desert Storm started.

I was in NS Norfolk and Major Dad was in Ras Al Gar, Saudi Arabia. His pictures to follow.

Wow, what a great photo!

Damn shame they took the Iowas out of service. At least they are preserving them.

They may be gone for good, too.

It's no cooincidence that my "15 Years Ago Today" post from last week takes place at this same time in January. The world's eyes were on the desert, not the Baltic.

I thought you were still in VMA(AW)-242. What were you doing in Norfolk? I guess you left when we were transitioning to the Hornet. Or did you go to Norfolk for hornet training?

Neither, Mike. I was in Career Planner School. They finally hooked me up for a "B" billet after all those years of dodging. I went straight back to 242, though.

Oh yeah. I remember that now.

But I distinctly remember you showing me pictures of your husband's helos in the war with their, ahem, politically incorrect camouflage patterns. I never met him, but my esteem of him went way up!

Those weren't exactly the photos I was referring to, thanks for reminding me...
