They Damned Well Better Had

...as far as America's concerned. Of course, as Bingley pointed out, Europe would prefer to write a stern letter.

Five months after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's election as president of Iran, some leading figures in Tehran's "mullahcracy" who backed him as a candidate are desperately trying to rein him in.

Sucks when your machinations bite you in the ayatollah a$$ahollah, doesn't it?

interesting article. i really really thought 10 countries joined the eu, not 8.

He [Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] is affiliated with the Hojjatieh movement, which is preparing for the return of the 12th imam, who disappeared down a well in the ninth century.

The Iranian theocracy should have remembered that old saying, "Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it."

A warm Swill welcome, jeremy! (Periscope is one of Newsweek's better features.) And you appear to be entirely correct, according to this and this:

The EU took in 10 new members - Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Cyprus, Malta, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia - on 1 May, 2004.

(Not quite sure where others get "8", but there are a few. Peculiar.)

Well, I see Poland listed twice, and maybe they don't count Cyprus as a country.

Oh! No duh, huh? I'll need to investigate foithuh.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at December 2, 2005 04:58 PM

Okay, I get...

"Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Cyprus and Malta" with "Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania fared better according to the Commission.

Along with Slovenia..."

...makes ten.

there's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium
and nitrogen and oxygen and hydrogen and helium...

The more countries that join the EU, the more unwieldy it becomes...which is good, because that generally means it does less.

So I guess now we sit back, make some popcorn see what the ayatollahs do about the problem they created.
