Christmas is Coming, the Goose is Getting Fat and

WE NEED YOUR HELP

We have some brave Devil Dogs (twelve to be exact ~ more on that later) keeping UAV's in the air on the Syrian border right now, with one of Major Dad's favoritest First Lieutenants in charge. She says most of her kids get hardly any mail at all and, being LCpl's and Cpl's, that means not much internet time for them either. The Swilling immediately adopted the whole bunch and this is where you guys come in. We'd love to have ya'lls help getting cookies, treats, paper turkeys, magazines ~ whatEVER you feel you can do ~ to the Marines of VMU-1 Forward's S-2 shop, so Thanksgiving and Christmas are a tad more tolerable. Time's getting short for Thanksgiving and the Christmas mailing recommendations are out (APO addresses by Dec5!), so we need to get crackin'. For example, I sent Sara a box of cookies prior to Halloween and tucked in a bag of individually wrapped candy corns. Now, they've been in the field for a couple weeks, so no packages, but it'll be waiting on her to get back. Stuff like that. I'm going to try to get a T-Giving box together with little turkey party thingers. We'd love to have you all on board, for cookies or for postcards ~ WHAT doesn't matter, but the THOUGHT does. I know there're quite a few worthy and wonderful (like Valor-IT) fundraisers going on around the blogosphere now, too. But those are big picture and impersonal. We're doing little picture, up close and personal. Like what hearing your name at mail-call does for a young Marine's heart. Drop me or Bingster a note (our contact info at right) if you'd like to join us. We'd love to have you. I mean, we'd LOVE to have you.

Do you want actual stuff, or just money so that you can buy the stuff? 'Cause either way, I'm in.

Posted by: Lisa at November 10, 2005 10:19 AM

Ok, I'm in, too.

Posted by: Suzette at November 10, 2005 10:24 AM

Whoopeee! Our fist volunteer! Thanks, Lisa.

Nope, no money. Just whatever we can get to individual marines, be it a box of cookies to share (or to hoard {8^P), dropping him (so far I think Sara's the only WM) maybe a Thanksgiving and a Christmas card, sending magazines you were gonna chuck...stuff like that. Just a personal touch. I know not everybody has the time to bake. Plus (an important note) all mail has to go to an individual anymore, NOT a unit. AND any packages have to have the whole damn customs declaration thingee. (Keeping the Middle East free of ee-ville, pork-fat bin-laden Vienna Snausages is a priority, I guess.)

I have names and addresses for those who want to start mailing things. Please don't think I'm being nosy when I ask 'who' and 'what'. I just want to make sure each of them gets some attention. You know ~ spread the love around.

You rock, Suzette!

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 10:29 AM

Oh, ok! Just send me a couple of names, and the boys and I will hook 'em up.

Posted by: Lisa at November 10, 2005 10:52 AM

THS,

WunderWife and I would like to adopt one. Email me a name and where/how to send. We can get up some goodies.

Need to take care of our guys/gals.

Posted by: WunderKraut at November 10, 2005 11:13 AM

Well, that's fab, Kraut!!

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 11:20 AM

Send me a name, THS. I can send a package or two that way.

Posted by: The_Real_JeffS at November 10, 2005 01:31 PM

Oh, you got it JeffS! Now that you're safely home (except for that ugly Indianapolis thing...), you can be a cookie baking fool! Or at least a Christmas Card writing one. {8^P

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 01:38 PM

Count us in! The CAG, Crusader II and III think we can adopt 3.

Posted by: Crusader at November 10, 2005 03:31 PM

This old (well not too old) former Marine is in. My wife, our eight children, and I would like to adopt one of your Marines. Drop me an email and we'll make sure there is at least one very spoiled Marine for the holidays. If you'd like to give us a few names we can split into teams for the spoiling. My daughters (six of them) love our Marines. My youngest at five scolds anyone who forgets to "pray for the Marines" during family prayer and my oldest daughter's former boyfriend was in A Co. 1/4. So, we'd be honored to help out.

BTW, Happy Birthday and Semper Fi!!

Posted by: David at November 10, 2005 03:51 PM

David, that's just wonderful! Happy Birthday And Semper Fi back atcha!

Oh, little brother, the CAG's gonna put you to work, huh?

For anyone reading all these wonderful comments, please don't think you're not needed or wanted, since we've got the "numbers" about covered. We want each of these Marines to hear their name at mail call however many times we possibly can, so please step up to the plate, whether it's cookies, or cards or magazines, or whatever you feel like. And trust me! As Major Dad, David, me or any of the spouses like Lisa can tell you, NO COOKIE GOES TO WASTE, lol! Even if there's tons, they'll get passed around. And EVERY MARINE LOVES A LETTER, if even it's a short note from someone he's never met. Especially if you're a youngster in a miserable spot far from home during the Holidays.

The goodness of your hearts to our 12 will carry over to the entire unit, I kid you not.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 04:31 PM

I'll do it. I don't know how to contact you, THS. Everytime I hit your namelink it goes to the front page of your blog site.

Send me an email:)

Well, lookee there, THS's is now too! :)

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at November 10, 2005 06:44 PM

So's mine and I just updated the post, GALA! Thanks for pointing it out.

You got it, Faith {8^P!!

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 06:44 PM

Baking goodies isn't my thing but send me three or four names and I'll get cards in the mail this weekend.

Posted by: Dave E at November 10, 2005 07:15 PM

Dave, that's EXACTLY the spirit and just the thing to raise the spirits! Five minutes to drop a note and someone gets mail that makes their day. Cool beans!

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 07:29 PM

Can you send me a name and the address? We would like to help.

Posted by: Susanna at November 10, 2005 07:53 PM

We want to help! Your system didn't take my address on the comment above. It'll probably work this time.

THANKS!

Posted by: Susanna at November 10, 2005 07:56 PM

It worked like a charm, Susanna! I'm working up a proper roster first thing. Thanks loads!

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 10, 2005 08:13 PM

I'm in! Who needs to bake when you can go to Publix and get the best Christmas cookies ever :P (I don't bake, I cremate) I can take one or two for packages and

Posted by: Cindermutha at November 10, 2005 10:33 PM

Please forward a name or two, with requisite APO/FPO address .... would be honored to send a card and package so they'll have a high-flying Christmas!

Posted by: Diwata at November 11, 2005 03:56 AM

Please send a name or two with requisite APO/FPO address to send a card and package to .... would be honored to keep a couple of Devil Dogs' spirits as high-flying as their UAVs at Christmas time!

Posted by: Diwata at November 11, 2005 04:02 AM

Up here in the Panhandle Escambia County Third World don't have no Publix! The closest one is 35 miles away, then they're talking about hopscothing us and building in Mobile!?! Wuzzupwidat?! We're hopeful they'll rethink the 'plan'. Winn-Dixie, however, is shaking in their boots.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 11, 2005 09:26 AM

Well, thank you, too, Diwata! One's on the way! (As soon as this eye-crossing list gets finished, lol!)

Posted by: tree hugging sister at November 11, 2005 02:38 PM

Please send us a name and address - we'd like to say thank you to an individual - and do a little something to make his or her holiday a little better.

Thank you.

Posted by: Wally at November 11, 2005 10:48 PM

What a wonderful idea.
We would love to have a name to send a thank you package to over the holidays.
Thank you

Posted by: patti at November 12, 2005 08:53 AM

Please email me. I'm in.
