Ronnie Barker's Gone
LONDON (Reuters) - British comedian Ronnie Barker, the big half of the famous duo The Two Ronnies and the indomitable Fletch in prison sitcom Porridge, has died aged 76.I'm not sure how many, if any, of you ever saw "The Two Ronnies". They were part of the original, early 70's BBC invasion and were side-splittingly hilarious. Where Benny Hill was naughty, the Ronnies took on current events. One quote from the obit:
"The toilets at a local police station have been stolen. Police say they have nothing to go on."
My favorite to this day has always been from their BBC news send up:
Late Item of the News: Idi Amin Dada arrived at London's Heathrow Airport today aboard his Mumbo Jumbo jet. As he deplaned, the Captain of the Honorguard called "eyes right!", to which Mr. Dada replied "No, ah's right!" and had him shot.Great stuff. I also adored Mr. Barker in an underrated HBO movie "My House in Umbria". It was wonderful to see him again.
