I recall reading this (or something like it) in 1993. I can confirm many of the little tidbits in that piece, like the bill for the trees. Federal taxpayers shelled out something like $400 per palm tree, folks. Fact.
But the folks of McClintock have my deepest respect. They just did it.

My god, that's a beautiful article.
All I can say to that is that we here in Miami thank God for prescient public servants like Johnston who were prudent enough to squirrel away a nice large deficit for use on a rainy day.
