That Sucking Sound You Hear...

...isn't New Orleans underwater. It's the Louisiana leadership vacuum, sucking the life out of one of the most vibrant places on EARTH. The mayor is a ghostly voice on radio and TV interviews. When was the last time you saw the man downtown. When was the last time you saw him at all?? Shep Smith is right this moment showing video of bodies on the I-10 pilgrimage trail to the Superdome. People who fell along the bridgeway, unable to go any further. The governor is still wringing her hands, being furious, safe in her command bunker. There is no public face for the people to look to. No answers getting to those in the cesspool of that city. No leaders. No one you can point to. "Oh yeah. He/She's in charge and no doubt about it."

There are two words that clarify the difference between Katrina and 9/11. Two words.

Rudy

Giuliani.

Someone needs to grow a pair and fast.

Yet some of the more left-leaning blogs I read daily are screaming, "What is the PRESIDENT doing?"

Um, the President is doing all. he. can. He's asked for BILLIONS of dollars from Congress; he's released oil from the strategic reserve; he's asked for the activation of the National Guard, for cruise ships from Carnival; yet no one screams at the Mayor or the Governor. No one standing on the overpasses or outside the Superdome is asking where the mayor is, they're all asking for the President.

Complaints should go where they're deserved.

Anyone familiar with Louisiana is long aware of how bad the majority of its leadership is. Mainly the governor and federal representatives. Though the represenative from my former district (Rodney Alexander) is the man!

Still so sad. These guys sure could use someone who can actually do things instead of shift blame and lement.

And God forbid the President went in and took over from the local losers (Like he should!) ~ the outcry would be enormous. I'm not sure how bad it has to get before it would even be legal.

It's the state's responsibility. W can ask for money and say these resources are at your disposal, but the local numnuts have got to get their heads out of their asses and have a plan and act.

ExACTly. Why are we so smart and the rest of the blogosphere so dumb? It's a puzzlement. ;)

Nah, it's a privilege! {8^P

Lucky for us, we all found each other, right?

Sigh.

It's the burden we bear, Lisa.

So that's what this monkey is. And here I was trying to get it off my back.

Posted by: Cullen at September 1, 2005 03:47 PM

Hey, that monkey is 96% you, so don't be so quick to cast it aside.

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at September 1, 2005 04:06 PM

I guess I'm talking about the metaphorical monkey without, not the hypothetical monkey within. Although my kids would saw that I monkey around just about 100% of the time.

Weird how just a slight change in genes can produce such terrificly different results.

If only Harry Connick, Sr. were still the DA...HE'D clean things up real quick!

It's a shame that the President can't fire the mayor and governor and put Rusy in charge.

Effin typos. Rudy.
