"Who Speaks For Casey Sheehan?"

Casey Sheehan's deeds were heroic. By laying down his life for this nation, he delivered the kind of message that is written in blood, that lives forever. Why on Earth would a loving mother choose to refocus the nation's attention onto her words and away from his deeds?

And what was Casey Sheehan's message? It had nothing to do with President Bush. It didn't even have to do with the war, necessarily. It said something much simpler: "I love my country."

Please read the whole thing.

I was shocked to see that this came from LA Times. Wow. Balanced and logical. That must be their one for the decade.

I will admit to that being part of wanting Swillers to 'please read'. Stunning, n'est pas? Just as astounding as Newsweek's piece on Bush and the families, although that did teeter on the 'get a dig in' in a place or two.

I was a public affairs specialist/journalist in the Army (did all those neat things like sniper school because it was available, not required).
When I was deployed to Afghanistan, we had a LA Times guy who hung out in our office a good bit.

Just remembered his name -- Chris Kraul. Decent journalist. Still, the idea of "investigative journalism" means "finding" the "real" story instead of just reporting what's happening.

He, at least, was a pretty funny guy.
