FoxNews Just Spoke to Senator Shelby...

..."After the tsunami, the United States mobilized immediately to help. It's been a couple of days now and the international and corporate silence is deafening. Have you heard anything?"

Senator Shelby: "In the international community they worry more about what America can do for them..."
UPDATE: Yeah. What he said.

The Silence is Deafening by Neil Cavuto

Maybe I missed it, but I have a question: Where's the global relief effort for us today?

New Orleans is under water. Mississippi is a disaster. Scores are dead. Homes are destroyed. Businesses are shut down.

When this kind of stuff happens to other folks, we're there. When this kind of stuff happens to us, who's here?

I know we're a rich country. But I think it a bit rich so few call to wish us well in this country. Perhaps some have and perhaps I've missed it.

Still, others never miss a chance to bash us if we've done something wrong or done nothing at all.

All I know is a lot of poor folks here got hit here. Would it kill the same foreigners we've helped there, to offer support here?

I don't expect a telethon. But how about a call on a telephone?

Maybe some countries have offered rescue personnel. I just haven't seen them. I'll keep looking. I'll keep waiting. I'll keep wondering.

All I know is for now, the silence is deafening. And the water in New Orleans isn't the only thing that stinks.

Exactly. Well, piss on them.

We'll take care of the folks ourselves, thank you very much.

Isolationism is a-comin'. The more the world spits on us the more I'm becoming an advocate of pulling our presence out of the world.

We'll still import/export, but if you want help, look elsewhere. If you attack us, our policy will be a retalitory nuclear strike.

See how the world fares then.

Bastards.

Let's not start whining about handouts from other countries. That's not what we do. If they don't want to give, that's their problem. Like Mr. Bingley said, we can take care of ourselves.

I don't see it's 'whining about handouts', Andrea. It seems to be more of wondering where the 'oh my gosh, that's awful! is there something we can do?' phone calls are; the statements of sympathy and concern. The 'our prayers are with the American people' press releases.

And I think that's a legitimate beef. Yeah. Where the f@ck are they?

Where're Rosie O'Donnell and all our home grown bleeding hearts for that matter? Lined up behind the Robert Kennedy's of the world, pointing fingers and not doing a GODdamned thing to help.

I guess I gave up on them long ago. If I hear of a sympathy note I'll be pleasantly surprised, that's it. (You'd think there'd at least be an outpouring of sympathy for New Orleans -- I always thought that city was a European fave as American cities go.)

Oh, and as for the Rosie O'Donnell set, I agree, they're too busy hating Bush. (Not a pun!)

Well, if the German papers are any indication of Euro Concern, we had it coming to us.

Fuckwads.

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at August 31, 2005 11:02 AM

Exactly my point. Exactly.

No one expects a barge of baguettes and band-aids to get sent over but a simple 'mon dieu!' should certainly be headed our way. From every sorry ass piece of shit country in the world, because there isn't one of them that the US hasn't bailed out, fed, doctored up or supported in some fashion, at some time, in their histories.

I see it's time for a hardy perennial.

Fortunately, we're just as hardy. God Bless America.

THS - at least our favorite country said something:

Good for them, John!

Three days later and they're the only ones. How sorry is that.

We don't need handouts. But a simple "We're thinking of you!" would be.....civilized.

I guess I'm expecting too much, huh?
