Semper Fi Baby!

The first and only Marine to be Joint Chief.

“The first thing America needs to know about Pete Pace is that he is a Marine,” Bush said. “To the American people, the Marine is shorthand for can-do*, and I’m counting on Pete Pace to bring the Marine spirit to these new responsibilities.”

Hehe.

*to terrorists, the Marine is shorthand for "Oh shit, we're screwed!"

Hairplitting, but I think you mean "first Marine to be chairman of the joint chiefs." Every Commandant of the USMC has been one of the joint chiefs since the Joint Staff was established in the 1947 Defense Reorganization Act.

"Hairsplitting" is why we love lawyers!

Actually, I guess the first "Joint Chief" was Bill Clinton...

He (J, Dave; one each) is a nitpicking hairsplitter, but a nice guy anyway and we need someone to keep us straight, painful as it might be.

I thought it was a lovely post, Bingley, even if you don't know a joint from a chair. The swilling Marines of our company salute your effort. Laphroig!
