Word of the Day

Saturday's was too good not to post:
gorgonize \GOR-guh-nyze\ verb:
to have a paralyzing or mesmerizing effect on : stupefy, petrify
The bus driver could gorgonize any unruly child with a single glance.

That isn't the only word that starts with 'gor' and winds up being stupefying...

That would be gorgonzolize, I do believe.

We had a bar near the office that used to make killer gorgonzola garlic bread; man, a few orders of that and a couple of pints of Bass and life was gooooood.

I remember one time, early in my marriage, that I went there after work and consumed as per above, except that I had more than a couple of pints of Bass. I got home, feeling no pain, hopped into bed and fell quite soundly asleep. My poor bride was woken up a few hours later by the pungent smell of gorgonzola garlic bread oozing out of all my pores. Despite several kicks from her I wasn't waking up, so she had to go out to the living room and sleep on the couch...and she had to open all the windows in the apartment to air the place out the next day.

Heh.

Gorgonzola AND garlic? That's pretty hard-core. And you say you're still married?

Dave, I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but the woman's a saint. She's the only family member with an official 'nice certificate'. How she wandered into this den of lunatics, I have no idea but bless her heart for sticking around. To put paid to the point ~ even MY mother-in-law threatened Bingley's life if he ever screwed it up...

Agreed. She is a Saint, as is my better half. Takes a strong soul to endure with the males of our clan....

Dave, it's soooo good.

If I give some ugly women to a charity, does that make me a gorgon donor?

Posted by: Crusader at March 28, 2005 12:07 PM

owwwwwwwwww........

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at March 28, 2005 12:10 PM

No, but it causes much gorgroaning...

Posted by: tree hugging sister at March 28, 2005 12:11 PM

gorgon na get it when you get home.

Posted by: Mr. Bingley at March 28, 2005 12:11 PM

So can we now proclaim that those who play with ugly women are gorgonists?

Posted by: Crusader at March 28, 2005 12:15 PM

That reminds me of one of the funniest album titles I ever saw, an E.Power Biggs recording named "Bach's Organ Works".

12 inch lp, of course.

Heh.

Or the old music store joke: "Off to lunch. Bach in an hour. Offenbach sooner."

{Tom Lehrer voice}

"As someone once remarked to Schubert: 'Take me to your Lieder...'"

Sounds like a 'hosen' job to me.

Posted by: tree hugging sister at March 28, 2005 04:24 PM
